Centenary Stadium for University of Reading

Having seen our Sustainable Design Proposals for the Forrest Green Rovers Stadium, UOR approached us to provide another concept design for a new multi purpose stadium with a new gateway and entrance for the whole White Knight's campus. We worked closely with the Commercial Department, who developed the brief, and were discussing the project with a number of external organisations regarding partnerships, sponsorship and funding for the project moving forward.
The project had an artificial pitch at its centre, aimed at being suitable for Football, Rugby, Hockey and American Football, but with the stadium opening out onto the existing playing fields so that it could provide seating and hospitality to Rugby and cricket matches played outside of the main stadium. Those playing fields ramped up over the main stadium, allowing people to walk up these slopes and view the games or events, happening in the main space. The Stadium included all the normal supporting rooms and functions, but also included a new Gym, Climbing Wall, Meeting Rooms, Conference Centre, E-Games Arena, Teaching Spaces and areas for the students to relax and study. Linked via bridges, a new reception / gateway building was proposed, together with a new covered external square, linked to the original White Knight's House. This provided a new reception, additional Administration spaces, Exhibitition spaces and additional areas for students to relax and study, including a covered roof terrace. At the very top of the stadium stands a new venue for hospitality and VIP's on Game days, and an additional function space for the students for most of the time, offering fantastic views across the city and beyond.
