Baoshan Retirement Village, Shanghai

This project was undertaken in partnership with PRP China where the principles of both practices had worked together for many years on Specialist Housing projects, both in the UK and China. This project looks to offer homes and all the necessary support and facilities required by the ageing population in this suburb of Shanghai. The scheme provides a local hospital / health centre, a Care Home with a range of facilities for people with different needs, together with assisted living and independent living apartments for those who require less support. The scheme places the buildings around a Central Park with covered walkways to the edges and open paths criss-crossing the park. At the base of the buildings surrounding the park are a range of cafes, shops, cinemas, gyms, well being centres and intimate meeting places. A Tea Room has also been placed in the centre of the landscaped Central Park.
